My Summary of this experience:
To my co-creators: As I review and reflect upon a semester worth of work on this project, I find it hard to summarize in just one paper. This project, in many ways, took over our lives at certain times. I remember spending nearly 40 hours in a single week working diligently on website and marketing to create a dynamic online presence for us. I was blown away at the dedication of Mia and Dr. Lee in the online world, mediating as elders and dealing with HOURS of griefing. Thomas started this project with a small suggestion to base a project from this book and followed it through as an amazing organizer, builder and supporter. Amanda wrote effective surveys and processed a plethora of data to keep grading and other resources tracked for our reference. Tiffany is such an amazing builder in Minecraft I’m honestly jealous. Lori, your kind words lifted my spirits and helped me through some really hard times – you were there each step of the way. We all worked extremely hard on this project. It was a privilege to work with you all. We created a project that is cutting edge – I can’t wait to see where each of you go in the future.
To my daughter: as a fifth grader you stepped up, read the book in depth, and learned to play minecraftedu. You amaze me. It took me a semester to do this; you did it in two weeks. Also, you didn’t spoil any details of this project to classmates that you may have overheard while I was working on it. Thank you.
To the teachers: Keep going. Your willingness to provide new opportunities is what reshapes how we teach our youth.
To myself: Overcoming obstacle upon obstacle, you didn’t give up. Breathe.
